Part-time, seasonal: June through August
Hours: Flexible, including weekends, averaging 25 hours/week
BCWC seeks individuals interested in water quality, conservation, and stewardship. This position is mainly field-based, working on multiple projects related to water quality issues and potential nature-based solutions. Interns will obtain interdisciplinary experience ranging from aquaculture, wetlands restoration, water quality monitoring, invasive species identification and removal, wildlife and plant surveying, and community outreach and education.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Maintain oysters in demonstration upweller tank.
• Assist with water sampling and data collection in bays, rivers, and ponds.
• Identify marine and aquatic invasive species.
• Assist with avian and vegetation surveys at cranberry bogs restoration site.
• Provide the public with information on BCWC and projects.
• Compile and enter sampling and survey data in electronic database.
• Maintain sampling and monitoring equipment according to quality control standards.
• Assist with land management duties at cranberry bog restoration site.
• Assist BCWC staff with other duties as needed.
**Weekly stipend offered. Interns must provide their own housing and transportation.
** Training will be provided by senior staff for all projects.
Qualifications:
• Must be 18 years or older, enrolled in or recently graduated from a college or university with a major/degree in marine or environmental science, ecology, or related discipline.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Comfortable communicating and interacting with the public.
• Ability to lift and carry 40 pounds.
• Comfortable working in and around the water and on small watercraft.
• Ability to work in a variety of field conditions.
