Barnstable Clean Water Coalition (BCWC) is seeking individuals interested in water quality, conservation, and environmental stewardship for seasonal paid internships from June 1st through August 31st (dates flexible depending on availability). Interns will work on multiple projects related to local water quality issues and nature-based solutions to nutrient pollution under the direction of the Field Operations Manager. Interns will obtain interdisciplinary experience through activities that include collecting water samples, identifying marine invasive species, conducting wildlife and plant surveys, and developing outreach materials.
Responsibilities include:

Assist with water sampling and data collection in nearshore waters, estuary, river and ponds.

Identify marine and aquatic invasive species.

Conduct avian, macroinvertebrate, wildlife and vegetation surveys in cranberry bog restoration site.

Maintain field equipment according to quality control standards.

Assist Field Operations Manager on land management duties at the cranberry bog restoration site.

Educate the public on BCWC’s mission and projects through communication initiatives, including the development of social media content and outreach materials.

Compile and enter scientific data into Excel and produce end-of-season reports.
Interns will work part-time, four days a week (Monday through Thursday) for an average of 30 hours per week (including some early morning and evening work). Compensation is $15 per hour. Interns are responsible for their own housing and transportation. Training will be provided by senior staff.
Qualifications:

Must be at least 18 years old, enrolled in or recently graduated from a college or university with a major/degree in marine or environmental science, ecology, natural resources or related discipline.

Comfortable working in a variety of field conditions, including on the water and in cranberry bogs with exposure to sun, heat, poison ivy, ticks and inclement weather.

Experience with water quality monitoring and field data collection a plus.

Work independently and as part of a team, along with being flexible and self-motivated.

Possess effective verbal and written communication skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Office 365, Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
