The Native Land Conservancy, Inc. (NLC) is a Native American-led land conservation nonprofit based in Mashpee on Cape Cod. The NLC is a national organization. Our mission is to protect and restore land for all living things wherever possible. Through land rescue and other programs, we perpetuate indigenous cultural lifeways. We are composed of an all-Indigenous Board of Directors coming from five tribal nations and a staff of five. We are funded through state, federal, and private grants as well as individual contributions. We are in an exciting period of rapid growth, embarking on a national strategy to assist Indigenous land conservation.

The Associate Director is a new position dedicated to supporting operations, project management, and building partnerships. The position will work closely with and will be supervised by the Executive Director.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, an engaged team leader and manager, an eager learner, have strong computer skills, and have Indigenous cultural competency or broader intercultural understanding. This position is well-suited for someone who is detail-orientated, has excellent time management, and is committed to improving Indigenous-led conservation locally and beyond.

Position responsibilities:

• Support land acquisition projects through due diligence and project management

• Communicate at a technical level legal pathways for Indigenous land conservation to both native and non-native partners

• With support from NLC leadership, forge new and reinforce existing partnerships through direct outreach including occasional travel

• Assist with review of communication materials, including newsletters, websites content, toolkits, and social media

• Oversee areas of HR such as payroll, benefits packages, policy development and implementation, regulatory compliance, teambuilding, and new staff orientation

• In accordance with financial policies, ensure timely payments, approvals, and deposits

• Oversee restricted grant management

• Provide administrative support for summer fellowship program and other programs and events as needed

The Associate Director will be supervised by the Executive Director and will be based in the NLC office (moving stipend may be provided). This position is full-time (35 hours). Compensation includes a salary between $70,000 – $80,000 and competitive benefits, including contributing 75% of health insurance costs, contribution of 5% to a retirement account after one year of service, paid time off and more.
