FULL-TIME FIELD ECOLOGY COORDINATOR

The Nantucket Land Bank seeks a qualified individual to complete field-based projects that improve and help to responsibly manage the Land Bank’s conservation, recreation, and agricultural properties. This position is approximately 60% in the field and 40% in the office. The Field Ecology Coordinator will be responsible for cyclical ecological work including but not limited to rare plant surveys, habitat assessments, vegetation monitoring, trail mapping, invasive species management, wetland delineations, water quality monitoring, completing grassland and forest management, and data collection with a GPS unit. Office responsibilities include submitting data reports to NHESP, writing habitat management plans, creating GIS maps, environmental permitting applications, and contributing to outreach activities and publications.

This position will report directly to the Director of Environmental & Agricultural Resources, will frequently collaborate with other environmental staff and property management field crew, and will be responsible for overseeing seasonal staff during the summer. The ideal candidate will have strong plant identification skills, a Massachusetts pesticide applicator’s license, familiarity with Massachusetts environmental regulatory agencies, and strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, conservation management, botany, or a related subject and three (3) years of relevant work experience OR a Master’s degree in a similar scientific field
Ability to navigate and collect data with a GPS unit
Strong plant identification skills
Proficient in ArcGIS
Familiarity with wetland delineations and Massachusetts soils
Familiarity with environmental regulatory agencies such as the Conservation Commission, Natural Heritage & Endangered Species Program
Pesticide applicator’s license
Interest in climate resilience initiatives
Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, & Excel
Strong communication & interpersonal skills
Supervisory experience required
Demonstrated strong attention to detail and must be task oriented
Ability to prioritize, schedule and execute office and field projects in an efficient manner

This position works a minimum of 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Daily work schedule may vary slightly depending on time of year and project demands. Compensation commensurate with education and experience. Position includes full benefits. Must have a valid Massachusetts driver’s license. Housing potentially available.
