Join ECCN and Ian Ives and Jay Cordeiro of Mass Audubon’s Spadefoot Toad Conservation Project for an evening of amphibious adventure at Ashumet Holly Wildlife Sanctuary in East Falmouth. Since 2011, Mass Audubon and its partners have translocated thousands of young spadefoot toads to restored breeding pools at Ashumet Holly from a healthy population in Barnstable. This project is a first for this state-threatened species and only the third vertebrate species translocation in Massachusetts. Spadefoot toads began breeding at Ashumet Holly in 2021, and project partners continue to monitor the pools for evidence of population establishment. Watch and listen for these warty wonders and get all your questions answered.

Bring good walking shoes, bug spray, and a headlamp or flashlight. Insect repellent and long pants are recommended, as ticks are common. We will walk slowly, covering about a half-mile over two hours, on irregular but not technical terrain.

We encourage attendees to carpool. The parking area can accommodate 15 cars.
