How to Find Potential Problems with a Title in a Potential Acquisition

-

via Zoom

Presented by Irene Del Bono, this class will help you to find deeds that are not online, that go further back than online deeds, or if the deeds are you are looking at do not reference the source of title. We will also talk about what to do when there are references to things potentially affecting the title - such as easements, forest rights, dedications, takings, estates, tax titles, potential adverse possession or prescriptive easements; what to look for on the land and in the records; how to find a good description; and importantly: what it will take to "fix" title issues.

This is not a class on title examinations - which should be done by an attorney. This class should help you in finding an attorney versed in problems that might be attached to a property.

Irene is an attorney with an extensive background in property and environmental law. She was an Assistant Attorney General for eleven years handling most of the state's property issues. After that, she was Director of Land Acquisition and later Chief of Encroachments at the MA Department of Conservation and Recreation. Prior to her retirement in 2015, Irene was the statewide Conservation Restriction Reviewer at the MA Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs. Irene has represented numerous private clients and assisted other attorneys in clearing-up and establishing complicated title issues regarding boundaries, easements, roads, adverse possession, tax titles, coastal issues, tree rights, and public and private rights in property.
