Senior Staff Accountant- Boston MA

Our Finance & Administration team plays a key role in supporting the work of The Trustees. We are a collaborative team working to streamline the way we work and deliver support services to our special places. Reporting to the Director of Accounting, the Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for day to day and month end accounting functions including processing cash/check receipts, preparing journal entries, and reconciling accounts. We are looking for an experienced, self-motivated accounting professional with the ability to work independently and maintain working relationships with other departments. He/she must have a solid understanding of GAAP and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Essential Functions:

In conjunction with the rest of the accounting and finance team, ensure daily operations are efficient, accurate, and timely

Complete balance sheet account reconciliations including bank and credit card statement reconciliations; research and resolve any discrepancies

Perform account reconciliations and analysis in support of monthly closing schedule

Fixed Assets additions, improvements, sale and disposal. Calculate and post monthly depreciation expense

Weekly check deposits using EZ deposit scanner

Support accounts payable and payroll functions

Allocation of monthly corporate credit card expenses for over 100 cardholders

Prepare various schedules for the annual financial audit and filing of Form 990 for multiple entities

Assist with various compliance reporting

Other projects as assigned

Bachelor’s degree in accounting; 5 to 7 years’ experience in accounting with nonprofit background preferred
Comfortable working in a general ledger application; experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge a plus

Strong computer skills, proficient in word processing and spreadsheet software especially Excel

Strong written and oral communication skills

Desire to work collaboratively and participate as a member of a diverse team

Highly detail oriented and organized

Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously

Proven analytical and problem-solving capabilities

Ability to work well with others, respond to changes in priorities and meet assigned deadlines
