The Lowell Parks & Conservation Trust (LP&CT) is a private, non-profit land trust operating within the City of Lowell, MA. Our mission is to improve the quality of life for the people of Lowell through the creation, conservation and preservation of parks, open spaces, and special places. This small, dynamic organization has five staff, an eleven-member Board of Directors, and a strong membership base. Our programming is diverse, including land protection, environmental education, historic preservation, and urban forestry. Are you interested in helping this dynamic organization grow? The position of Environmental Educator will provide programming, logistics, and support for our after-school program, working with elementary to high school aged youth at several school locations in Lowell. Youth education is primarily offered after-school, in partnership with Mass Audubon’s Drumlin Farm Wildlife Sanctuary. The Environmental Educator will typically co-teach programs with a teacher-naturalist from Drumlin Farm.

LP&CT is very much a teamwork-based environment which requires flexibility/adaptability, self-initiative, goal setting, and interacting with the public – all working toward project accomplishments that meet the clearly defined mission of the Trust.

Minimum qualifications: The ideal candidate will have experience in offering youth environmental education programming or outdoor classroom programming, be adaptable to unexpected program changes, the ability to engage and inspire youth, and have strong interpersonal skills. In addition, the candidate will be proactive, detail–oriented, and can multi-task and prioritize.
Preferred experience/skills include: Associate's degree in natural resource management/environmental studies/education or a field related to the position, plus 1-2 years of environmental education experience; experience working with undeserved youth; familiarity with LP&CT programs, knowledge of Lowell and its natural resources; experience working with diverse learning styles, land stewardship; computer skills: Microsoft Office applications of Excel and Word; database skills; and social networking media (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Constant Contact).

Required availability:
• School year: The applicant must be consistently available Monday-Thursday afternoons for after-school programming throughout the school year, as required at each site, starting early October.
• Summers: Programs are taught morning, ~8am-12pm, Monday-Friday.
• Up to 12 hours/week, may include some weekend and evening work.

Compensation: $18-20/hour.
