Climate Change Communication for Land Trusts Workshop: Learning from Peers

September 12, 2019 9:00 a.m. -1:30 p.m.
Location: Mass Audubon Farm Life Center at Drumlin Farm, 208 South Great Road, Lincoln, MA
Registration: please check back this summer

Although most Americans accept that climate change is happening, many also perceive it as a distant threat. They see it as someone else’s responsibility and feel helpless to do anything about it. For practitioners on the front lines of climate adaptation, like land trust staff, that’s a problem. You see the impacts of climate change in flooded rivers, drowning salt marshes, and pest-infested forests. You recognize the need to act now. Effective communication can help you engage the stakeholders you need on your side and advance your land conservation and stewardship work. In this half-day workshop, participants will learn how to communicate more effectively about climate change to target audiences using research-based guidance developed specifically for land trusts in partnership with the Land Trust Alliance. The workshop will include discussion of climate-communication pitfalls and recommendations, opportunities to practice communication skills through hands-on activities, and structured time to workshop one of your own communication products with feedback from peers.

This workshop is held in partnership with the Mass ECAN-affiliated Climate Communications Expert Work Group (including UMass Amherst, Mass Audubon, New England Forestry Foundation, Harvard Forest).
