Farm Bill Letter - sign on by June 8th

Dear Supporter of Rural Conservation Action,

We ask your help in HOLDING THE LINE on cuts to Farm Bill conservation programs. The Conservation Title programs in the Farm Bill help to protect natural resources in a uniquely successful way—by funding a variety of voluntary partnerships and cooperative conservation efforts between the U.S. Department of Agriculture and private landowners. These conservation programs are essential to the sustainability of U.S. agriculture and forestry and to meeting the growing demand for food and fiber at home and abroad.

The Farm Bill advanced by the Senate Agriculture Committee has already sustained more than its fair share in budget deficit reduction. We are convinced that further cuts would simply put this country’s entire system of agricultural and forestry conservation programs at risk. We ask that, in the Senate floor action and House Committee and subsequent floor action, Members in both the Senate and House hold the budget line for conservation in the Farm Bill to no less than the amounts approved by the Senate Agriculture Committee on April 26th, 2012.

This winter, 643 organizations across the country supported a strong Conservation Title for the Farm Bill. Let’s do it again! Sign-on to the letter below to Senate and House Leadership and join the following groups in protecting funding for the Farm Bill as it goes through the Senate and House over the next few months: American Farmland Trust, Ducks Unlimited, Environmental Defense Fund, Land Trust Alliance, Mass Land Trust Coalition, National Association of Conservation Districts, National Wildlife Federation, National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition, The Nature Conservancy, Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership, Trout Unlimited. Deadline for signatures is COB on JUNE 8TH. Letter and sign-on form available here.
